Responding to the news that the Government is finally consulting on proposals to change the rules regarding short term property lets, Liberal Democrat MP for Tiverton & Honiton Richard Foord said:

"This consultation is too late for communities which have been hollowed out by a free-for-all on holiday lets. The Government has repeatedly dragged its feet on this issue.

Conservative MPs voted down Liberal Democrat moves to toughen the rules on second homes several months ago. They’ve left people in many parts of Devon being priced out of their own communities.

"We need to see real action to protect houses in our towns and villages from being snapped up as investment opportunities, rather than the quality homes that local people need.

"I encourage everyone to take part in this consultation, so we can start to address this glaring issue."

The consultation is open until 7th June and can be accessed here: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/consultation-on-a-registration-scheme-for-short-term-lets-in-england/consultation-on-a-registration-scheme-for-short-term-lets-in-england
